Oprah's Proudest Day

"I now know this is why I never had children myself. These are my girls and I love them, every one of them."-Oprah Winfrey

Choosing 152 of South Africa's neediest girls to attend, Oprah Winfrey opened up a $40 million dollar + Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Oprah's dreams turned into a pure reality. Oprah always wanted to open up a first class school for impoverished yet extremely gifted South African girls. Winfrey literally built a dream for herself and 152 financially disadvantaged, yet academically talented girls who never had a chance to be nurtured and educated through an academic system. This school was built to teach and transform girls how to become leaders and strong, powerful individuals. The educational environment provided at this academy is beyond wonderful, serving as a model school for all others. With the tremendous help of the Academy, Oprah helps to see these chosen girls develop into influential leaders of South Africa.

O Magazine

O Magazine was first published April 19, 2000. This magazine provides readers with inspiration on everything from enduring love to great cooking. O Magazine entertains, informs, and provides a useful place to find great tips on health, beauty, fashion, cooking, relationships, money management, and more. This magazine is uplifting, giving both men and women the tools they need to live a great lifestyle and a place to express their individual style. I read O Magazine because I find the articles and advice Oprah shares on health very accomodating to my daily work out. This magazine, through articles, videos, audio, and photos, teaches readers about life essentials and how we might want to make changes to make our lives better everyday.

As an 18year old girl, "5 Best Things to Do for Your Relationship," an article that I read in O Magazine, was one that I found very interesting. In this article, it gives...the five best things to do for your relationship. At first relationships/love is being compared to a car, needing constant care and adjustment instead of going to the body shop (couples counseling). This article gives great advice on love and how to cope when arguments break out. Oprah says the first thing both men and women must do is "stop all blame, shame, and criticism." Appreciation must be expressed for one another.

This article was interesting and inspiring to me because I feel that relationships are sometimes one of the hardest things to maintain in life.

The creation of Power- Oprah's Early Life & How She Began

Oprah Winfrey has come from a very hard childhood. Fame and fortune was not handed to Oprah Winfrey- like it is to many other celebrities in our world today. When Oprah was very young, her parents were divorced and she was forced to live with her grandparents. She was sexually molested by male relatives and grew up in a poor neighborhood and overall bad environment. At 14 she moved in with her father in Tennessee. She struggled with drugs, lost a baby prematurely, and was an overall rebel. Her father was very strict, so her rebellious behavior was put to a stop when it came to Oprah's schoolwork. She was always a very intelligent human being, striving and aiming to achieve the highest grades and more out of life in general. Oprah not only worked for her highschool radio newscaster, but she also worked for a news reporter for a television show as an anchor in Nashville. This is where it all began. She was the first African- American woman to work as a news anchor in Nashville on this tv station- at age19! However, Winfrey was never comfortable doing the news until one section of the broadcasting came where she was able to express her own opinions about topics that moved her.  In 1984, Winfrey moved to Chicago to host an early morning talk show called "AM Chicago". It was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" about one year later and was ranked the #1 talk show.

"I don't think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good."
